Pakistan Fed Cup team off to India

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Fed Cup team, comprising Ushna Suhail, Eman Qureshi and Sara Mansoor along with captain Inamul Haq, Sunday left for India through Wahga Border. The team will feature in Fed Cup Asia Oceania Group-II competition, commencing from April 14 in Hyderabad, India. Talking to The Nation, PTF secretary Khalid Rehmani said: “Best player of the country Sarah Mahboob Khan, who recently won the 1st Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Clay Court Championship, was originally selected, but she was not available due to her final exams and season-ending conference tournament in USA. Mahin was also selected after finishing fourth in the trials but the ITF refused to let her play as she was not even 14.” Before leaving for India, the players had a brief coaching camp here under Inam.”–Staff Reporter

Pak juniors beaten in Jr Davis Cup

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan junior Davis Cup team went down fighting against Uzbekistan 1-2 for a place from 9th to 16th in the Junior Davis Cup Asia Oceania played in Shapperton, Australia Sunday. In the first match, M Raza Sawani gave Pakistan perfect start as he outplayed Sottimov Timor in straight sets. Raza won the first set 6-2 and second 6-3 to give the country 1-0 lead. But soon it was 1-1 as M Muzammil lost hard-fought two-set match against Turgunov Aziz. Muzammil lost the first set 3-6, and second 6-7. In the doubles, Turgonov Aziz/Abdu Malikov had to battle hard to overcome Muazammil/Nofil Kalim in three sets, the Pakistani pair won the first set 6-3, lost the second 6-7 and third 4-6. PFF announces 1st Women Football League

LAHORE – Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has announced to hold the 1st Pakistan Women Football League 2015 in August. PFF women committee chairperson Senator Mrs Rubina Irfan said: “The PFF has never ignored the progress and development of women football in the country and launching of Pakistan Women Football League is a true example of this.” Earlier in a meeting of PFF women committee chaired by Rubina and attended by PFF women administrator Qibtia Jamshed, PFF women committee members Sadia Sheikh and Tasawar Aziz it was decided to hold 1st Pakistan Women Football League in August 2015 in which eight quarterfinalist teams of 10th National Women Championship will participate including Balochistan United Women FC, Wapda Women FC, Army Women FC, Young Rising Star Women FC, Punjab Women FC, HEC Women FC, Diya Women FC and IFA Women FC. –Staff Reporter

HEC lift 12th National Women Baseball title

LAHORE - Higher Education Commission (HEC) baseball team won gold in the 12th National Women Baseball Championship 2015 after defeating Punjab baseball team in the final played here at the Punjab Stadium Sunday.  Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) chairman Shaukat Javed was chief guest while Miss Amina Munir and Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) president Maroof-ul-Hassan were the guests of honor. PFB president Syed Khawar Shah, organising committee chairman Moazzam Khan and organising secretary Sheikh Mazhar Ahmed welcome the guests. On the final day of championship, two matches were played. Earlier, the match for the third position was played between Pakistan Army and Sindh which Army won by 21–6. In the final, HEC defeated Punjab 12–8. For HEC, Madiha Gujjar, Rabia Basri, Zeni Riaz, Saira, Mariam Shafique, Irum Rathore scored two runs each. For Punjab, Rabia, Ayesha Kalsoom, Irum and Umm-e-Hani also scored two runs each. –Staff Reporter
