Intel gathering system urged at police stations

LAHORE - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf yesterday urged the field police officers to build up a credible intelligence gathering system at police station level.
He asked the field officers and foot constables to improve coordination and contacts with the notable personalities and ordinary citizens in their respective areas. All police officers and officials including SHOs, Beat Officers, Beat Constables, and Detective Force Constable should stay with in touch with maximum people in their locality.
City (Operations) police chief, Haider Ashraf, issued these directions while presiding over an anti-crime meeting of the Sadar police division held at the police headquarters yesterday.
All the sub-divisional police officers and station house officers were also present on this occasion. The DIG reviewed the crime and law and order situation in the city and directed the officers to step up the ongoing campaign against most wanted criminals and suspected militants.
DIG Haider Ashraf directed the police officers to ensure the use of biometric machines during search and security sweeps.
On this occasion, the DIG wanted the DSPs and SHOs to improve their working otherwise they would have to face disciplinary action over poor crime control.
The DIG also ordered the field police officers to ensure best security arrangements at educational institutions, worship places, banks, and cinema house in the provincial metropolis.
He said that the security deployment must be checked on daily basis at all important points and around key government installations. The police were also directed to intensify crackdown on drug-peddlers and those running gambling dens.
