Ministry of Health has imposed a condition on manufacturers to print a new health warning on cigarette packets from July 1. It is a good step towards inducement of abstinence from smoking but not quite good enough. We Pakistanis do not do anything until and unless penalties are enforced upon us. Smoking is spreading like wild fire in our youth because it is thought to be in fashion. The authorities have to put an end to this affliction. Quotas should be imposed no the sale, production and import of these 'poison pipes'. I find it rather strange that instead of fighting the menace, we are allowing creation of smoking corners in many of our educational institutions. -SAAD AKMAL, Lahore, via e-mail, August 12.
