Jhang all set to tackle floods

JHANG - In view of heavy monsoon rains, Jhang administrationhad chalked out a plan to fight floods as the district is surrounded by two main rivers - the Chenab and the Jhelum. Presiding over a meeting, the district coordination officer urged NGOs representatives to launch awareness campaign in the flood areas to apprise the people of precautionary measures. He said that all arrangements had been finalised keeping in view the previous years experiences during floods. He directed the officers of the departments concerned to keep ready food, medicines, fodder, boats, tents, relevant machinery and other necessary arrangements and the relevant staff should remain alert all time to meet the challenge of possible floods. He maintained that flood control room would work at district and tehsil levels besides establishment of 18 flood relief centers in the district. Appreciating the role of NGOs and philanthropists in the rescue measures during the last years floods, he said that more than 40 boats had been used for evacuating victims from the flood hit areas and all expenditure had been born by the Power Looms Association and local industrialist Muhammad Umar Khan. He said that more than 40 boats would be available in the district for evacuating the flood affectees in case of floods in any area of the district. The DCO informed the meeting that the small protection bund would be constructed to save the newly constructed road of Garmahraja pattan from river erosion and Tathamala bund has been made more strengthened. Among others the meeting was attended by EDO Health Dr .Khalid Islam, ADC Sohail Khawaja, DOC Javed Ahmed Bhutta, Assistant Commissioner Sajjad Gondal and, DO Social Welfare Kausar Ali and representative of some NGOs. The DCO also said that Child Help Line and Child Protection Unit has also been established in Zila Council Building.
