Law pertaining to states security can be reviewed, says Rabbani

ISLAMABAD (INP) - The Parliamentary Committee on National Security Friday said the committee could review any law pertaining to the security of the state and put forward suggestions and recommendations. The committee, which met at Parliament House with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair discussed the point raised by Professor Ibrahim that weather the committee could review law pertaining to security of the state or not. Senator Afrasyab Khattak, Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi, Senator Ishaq Dar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aftab Khan Sherpeo, Sherry Rehman and Munir Orakzai attended the meeting. Members of the committee submitted their suggestions regarding the issue and Rabbani told the media that the committee could review any law and it could forward recommendations by taking the law enacting body into confidence. Rabbani said that the committee could ask the standing committees to amend any law related to national security. He said that it was not compulsory for the standing committees to accept the suggestions and recommendations of the parliamentary committee. The senator said that the matter of amending the Armys authority in the Anti Terrorism Act was being reviewed in the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs. Rabbani said that he would take Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs Chairman Senator Talha Mehmood into confidence on the matter.
