LAHORE – International Master Mahmood Lodhi held Philippines Grand Master (GM) to draw in Pakistan’s 3-1 loss in 9th round of 41st World Chess Olympiad in Tormso, Norway on Tuesday night. Pakistan’s 14-time national champion Lodhi, who had been struggling in the earlier rounds, produced his best to play a draw against Sadorra Catilino having the FIDE rating of 2590. Un-rated Syed Ahmed Ali also played well and drew against Dersamina Paulo, however, veteran international master Shahzad Mirza and M Younus suffered defeat against their fancied opponents. With their third defeat in a row in 7th, 8th and 9th round, Pakisatn further declined to 108th spot in 160-nation event. Pakistan was due to meet Libya in 10th round, according to reports reaching here on Tuesday.–Staff Reporter
