ISLAMABAD - Sindh lifted the inaugural National U-12 Football Championship title after thrashing KPK 5-1 in the final played here at Jinnah Stadium on Tuesday.
Punjab edged Fata 2-1 to clinch the third position. KPK took the lead in the 6th minute through Habib’s brilliant solo effort. Sindh bounced back and succeeded in leveling the score in the 13th minute through Zaid’s superb hit. Sameer then put Sindh in front in the 23rd minute while Aaqib hit a superb brace in the 36th and 40th minute. Iftikhar put the result beyond doubt in the 54th minute by scoring the 5th and final goal for the champions.
Earlier, for the third position play offs, Punjab had to dig deep to overcome Fata challenge. Sohaib put Punjab ahead in the 10th minute, Hamza doubled his team’s advantage in the 44th minute, but Fata boys bounced back and responded in the 44th minute to reduce the deficit through a superb goal from Babar Zia. Despite putting tremendous pressure on Punjab goal, Fata strikers failed to add any further and had to contend with fourth position.
PSB DG Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera was the chief guest on the occasion. It was quite interesting that none of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) officials, directors or any other responsible bothered to present on the venue.
Sindh skipper was handed over the championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while KPK skipper received Rs 30,000 and runners-up trophy, Punjab captain received Rs 20,000, best goalkeeper M Kashif of Fata, maximum goal scorer Abdullah of KPK and best player Sajid Ali of Punjab got trophy and Rs 5000 each. The fair play trophy went to hosts Islamabad.
