Lahore- Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq today says his party is making efforts for law, constitution and democracy.

Talking to journalists he said they are in contact with former President Asif Ali Zardari and held talks with Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on the prevailing political situation. Sirajul Haq said they are supporters of reforms but these should not harm democracy.

He is of the view that Imran Khan long march should not be blocked and should be allowed to come to Islamabad. Siraj-ul-Haq, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, has urged PML-N government to facilitate Imran Khan for his ‘Azadi March’ in Islamabad.

“I have appealed the PML-N leadership to facilitate Imran Khan in holding the march. They should mutually decide route of the rally. This is the only honourable and peaceful way, and I have also clarified it to PTI that they must enter Islamabad peacefully,” said the JI chief.

He said that PTI has assured that they would not involve in violence and the protest would remain peaceful. “I appeal the government to remove containers from Lahore and Islamabad besides making arrangements for provision of water and food to protestors. I also appeal politicians to come forward for a peaceful solution,” he said.

He said the PML-N government still has options to meet PTI demands. “The time is running out but the government has time to deliver. It must show generosity.” Siraj ul Haq said his party supports democracy, but feared that PTI-PML-N confrontation might result in damage to democratic institutions.

“We want reforms without any harm to democracy… God forbid, if the march was tackled unwisely there will be a ‘double march’ following the long march that will send rulers home and the masses will be the ultimate sufferers,” he said.

The JI chief urged on reconciliation and dialogue for a way out of present turmoil. “Use of power is not the solution to problems, it will end rulers themselves.”

Without making clear JI’s decision on joining ‘Azadi March’, he only said the party will celebrate Independence Day on August 14.
