Sindh set to up the ante in NFC meeting

KARACHI - The Sindh government has decided to oppose the agenda of proposed first meeting of 8th National Finance Commission, which likely to be held on December 16, in Islamabad.
In this regarding, a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, discussed the preparations of Sindh government for the next meeting and decided to lodge protest against the working paper of agenda of the proposed meeting, in which the Federal Finance Ministry included an item of imposition of general sales tax on services in an integrated mode and its mode of distribution among provinces, which aimed to snatch the collection right from the provinces, which enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan. Through the circulated working paper, the federal government has sought collection of GST on goods and services by a single agency mean the Federal Board of Revenue, to ensure smooth input-output adjustments. The CM recently had written a letter to the President, seeking his intervention to refrain the Federal Finance Ministry from touching the issues which have already been settled in the 7th NFC.
