ISLAMABAD - As the security situation in Syria worsens, Pakistan is keeping salience about the fate of staff of Pakistani embassy and Pakistani compatriots there, sources said Wednesday.

Despite conflicting reports that members of Pakistani diplomatic mission have been closed and the staff has been pulled out, senior officials of the Middle East Desk in the ministry of Foreign Affairs remain indifferent.

The additional secretary for Middle East and Arab Affairs Seema Naqvi, Director General Zahid Nasrullah and his director Sarfaraz A Khan Sipra did not respond to the calls.

Despite taking all the contact details and the promises, none of them approached this scribe till filing of this report. Instead their assistants kept on refereeing to each other all the time they were contacted. They also referred to the office of new official spokesperson and deputy spokesperson but to no avail.

It was however learnt that the ministry has neither been able to evolve any contingency plan nor there was any effort to that end till Wednesday.

because of the absence of Minister Hina Rabbani Khan secretary Foreign Affairs from the country.

Both the high-ups were in Ankara in connection with 7th tripartite meeting of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey.

It was further learnt that the office of newly designated spokespersons remained operative because of the absence of Muazzam A Khan who was also accompanying his seniors in the tripartite meeting. The new spokesperson would assume the responsibility today (Thursday) by addressing the weekly press briefing.
