Chairman, councillor ‘big guns of extortion mafia’

Police have registered a case against 10 people including a newly-elected chairman and a councillor on a charge of extorting money from transporters.
According to Model Town police, they received a phone call that some persons were busy collecting money from the transporters at General Bus Stand. A police party raided the spot and arrested three accused namely Khawaja Amir, Khalid Rashid, Nadeem and Usman while collecting money from the bus drivers. The police also recovered money and special stickers from the accused. During investigation, the arrested persons told the police that they were deputed there by Union Council Chairman Bau Farooq, councillor Zahid Anayat Tumma Butt, their accomplices Nafees Butt, Tanvir, Tayyab and Farooq Gujjar etc.
Meanwhile, FIA teams conducted raids under the supervision of its assistant director at different places and arrested four proclaimed offenders and one human trafficker. At Gujrat, alleged human trafficker Qaiser Abass was arrested for his involvement in various cases of sending people to Greece and other countries through bogus documents.
The proclaimed offenders including Munawar were arrested from Sialkot, Rafiq from Gujranwala, Bashir Masih from Gujranwala and Asif Riaz was arrested from Gujrat.
ACCIDENT: At least 25 passengers including a women and children were injured as a result of a traffic incident at Nandi Pur Gujranwala.
A bus coming from Faisalabad to Sialkot turned turtle due to high-speed near Nandi Pur. Resultantly Shafqat, Ramzan, Shahzad, Nabeel, Baber, Nasreen, Munawar, Sakina, Komal, Riasat and Irfan etc got injuries and were shifted to Daska and DHQ Hospital. The police arrested bus driver Anayat on the spot.
On the other side, two dead bodies were found from different areas while police shifted the bodies to DHQ Hospital and registered cases.
Passers-by had spotted the body of a 30-years-old man in Kotwali area and informed the police. Likewise, the dead body of a newly born child was found in fields of Qila Didar Sing area which was also shifted to DHQ Hospital by police.
MARTYRS PAID RICH TRIBUTES: In connection with Martyrs Weak for paying tributes to the victims of Army Public School Peshawar, a seminar was held in Zila Council Hall.
A large number of officials, teachers, students and common public attended the seminar. Speakers strongly condemned the terrorist attacks especially on the innocent students and teachers of APS Peshawar. They paid rich tributes to the martyrs. They further said the nation was unbeatable as everyone is in high spirit. They expressed determination that terrorist attacks could not threat them and also vowed to play constructive role for the progress and development of the country.
Addressing the seminar, the district coordination officer said that the nation and the armed forces of Pakistan are united and determined to eliminate terrorism in the country. He reaffirmed solidarity with the victims of the December 16 terrorist attack on Army Public School in Peshawar and reaffirmed the determination to fight the menace. MPA Toufiq Butt said that the government and the nation were not afraid of cowardly attacks of terrorists.
