KARACHI - A retired army major was shot dead in Defence Housing Authority area of the city on Saturday.

The deceased identified as Ahsan Raza, aged about 63, son of Zahoor, was gunned down by Taliban gunmen outside his residence in DHA Phase No 1. A pistol was recovered by the police from the crime scene. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.

“Two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike opened fire at Raza, in the early hours of Saturday,” said a duty officer at Defence Police Station. AIG Karachi Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar told a private TV channel police were probing the incident. Police have lodged the First Information Report (FIR) of the assassination and launched an investigation.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (Pakistan Taliban) claimed responsibility for all the three attacks on the security personnel. As per the statement by spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani, the special task force unit of TTP carried out the attack in Karachi, beside an assault on a deputy superintendent of police n Peshawar and an explosion in Quetta.
