Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that the government’s policies have put the Pakistan Railways on the road to progress and stability after steering it out of “ICU” of corruption and financial losses.

Addressing inaugural ceremony of the Narowal Railway Station Upgradation Project, he said that now the PR is making progress day by day.

The project would be completed under the supervision of NESPAK in a stipulated period of 16 months with total estimated cost of Rs 351 million. This project would cover an area of 62,000 square feet.

The minister said that the PML-N government remained successful in reducing the annual deficit of Pakistan Railways (PR) from Rs32 billion to Rs27 billion, which would further be brought down to Rs23 billion in the next year. He said that the government was making hectic efforts to make Pakistan Railways a profitable service by providing quality journey services for the commuters across Pakistan.

He said that a lot of work was yet to be done gradually by the government to improve the railway infrastructure in the country besides ensuring early repairing of its over-aged railways engines and rusting tracks.

Rafique announced the speed of trains from persisting 35-40km/hour on old railway track between Narowal to Lahore to 60-65km/hour by ensuring early repairing of the tracks.

He said that the feasibility reports were also being prepared to ensure Narowal-Sialkot and Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad rusting railway tracks for repairing. He added that 21 selected railways stations across Pakistan are being upgraded as the government was committed to pulling the Pakistan Railways out of the financial crisis.

He said that the masses had rejected the negative styled politics of conflicts by the “immature politicians” by rejecting them through their votes in LB polls. He said that the government was also committed to safeguarding the rights of the people of Balochistan besides establishing durable peace there.

On the occasion, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the government was taking Pakistan forward towards the goal of economic and political stability. He said that the masses had again shown their confidence in the positive and effective policies of the government by voting for the PML-N in the polls.

He said that now there was no space for the politics of conflict in the country. He said that the PML-N government was fulfilling its all the political promises made to the people gradually, adding that the government was also striving to raise the living standard of the people by ensuring the early and smooth provision of all the basic facilities at their doorsteps.

He said that the journey to development and progress initiated by the government is now moving ahead day by day. He said that the government has established “durable” peace in Balochistan and Karachi. He said that it was bringing actual change in Pakistan as the change does not come by raising only the slogans while standing on the containers.

He said that the masses have strongly rejected the Dharna politics.

Earlier, Mr Rafique and Mr Ahsan jointly inaugurated the project. Under the project, a state-of-the-art building of Narowal station would be constructed there having air conditioned waiting hall, prayer hall, separate wash rooms for ladies and gents, reservation office, parcel booking office, generators for 24 hours power supply, car parking lots on a 24-kanal area, commercial area (shopping mall) attached with Narowal railway station building, two open sky restaurants project and play land for the children would be established.
