Bogie catches fire at Rawalpindi Railways Station

Rawalpindi - Fire erupted in an empty new train bogie parked at Rawalpindi Railways Station on Tuesday, the sources said.

After fire engulfed the bogie, the Rescue 1122 fire brigade officials brought the fire under control. A wave of panic swelled among the passengers and other staffers of Pakistan Railways.

According to the sources, the fired erupted in the bogie at around 3pm as some drug addicts sitting in the bogie accidentally set the same on fire. After the incident, the drug addicts managed to escape from the scene. The bogie was burnt and dilapidated, the sources added. The Railways administration called the fire brigade in for extinguishing the fire.

When contacted, Station House Officer Railways Police Station Javed Jagga said that reason behind the fire was not yet known.

He said that Pakistan Railways had purchased this new bogie exclusively for transporting passengers and to load luggage. He said that the railways officials had parked the bogie on track after loading passengers’ luggage in it when all of a sudden fire caught it with small explosions.

However, he said that no causality or injury was reported in the incident. He said that Pakistan Railways fire fighters failed in controlling the fire but the Rescue 1122 fire fighters overwhelmed the fire after one hour. He said that a technical team had been constituted to ascertain reason behind the fire and action would be taken against the culprits in light of the inquiry report.

On the other hand, officials of an intelligence agency prepared a report, saying that drug addicts had set the bogie on fire. The report was forwarded to authorities concerned for further action.
