QUETTA - International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will provide financial assistance of $ 25million for development of fisheries, livestock and agriculture sectors in coastal districts of Gwadar and Lasbela in Balochistan. This commitment has come forth due to the keen interest shown by Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani and Minister for Fisheries, Mir Hammal Kalmati. According to official sources, the commitment was formally made public by IFAD team during a meeting with senior officials of the Balochistan government in Islamabad the other day. Under the programme, the IFAD would provide financial assistance to help develop the rural infrastructure mostly in fisheries sector vis-a-vis agriculture and livestock sectors. The proposed assistance would go a long way in improving the socio-economic conditions as well as capacity building of the people involved in the above-mentioned sectors, in the coastal districts of Gwadar and Lasbela. Nawab Raisani and Fisheries Minister Mir Hammal Kalmati had been instrumental in materialising the IFAD financial assistance that would boost the fisheries, livestock and agricultural activities in the area where majority of the population depend on these three sectors as their sole means of livelihood.
