GCU student breaks 47-year-old record

LAHORE - Government College University Lahore intermediate student Adnan Jahangir has broken the 47-year-old record in triple jump on the second day of the GCU 111th Annual Sports on Saturday. Adnan jumped to 13.64 metres to set the new record of GCU Sports. However, the previous best of 13.35 metres was set by Farooq Hamid in the 1963. GCU Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan said that the second day of the GCU Annual Sports ended with the participation of 427 students and teachers in 22 various track and field events. M Zeeshan of Geography Department won the 5000 metres race by covering the distance in 17:21.13 seconds. M Zeeshan also won the 1500 metres race by covering the distance in 4:35:53 seconds. However, in the 100 metres final, M Aoun reached the finishing line in 11:30 seconds and earned gold medal. Adnan Aslam won the pole vault. Engineering Department won the 4x100 metres relay for the staff members while Zoology Department stood second. Aleemur Rehman of Geography Department was declared winner of discus throw whereas, Khursheed Ahmed from Political Science Department won the 400 metres hurdles. In hammer throw, intermediate student Irfanullah bagged the first position. Earlier, Bio-Technology Department girls secured the first position in 4x100 metres relay race. The most enthralling gymkhana events which include ministerial staff race, naib qasid race, four legged race, cricket throw ball for girls, pillow fighting, staff children race, stilt race, 60 metre race, sack race, chatti race for girls and obstacle race will be held at the closing ceremony to be held at GCU Oval Ground on Sunday (today).
