KARACHI Tension gripped Lyari after the gunfight between Peoples Aman Committee and Katchi Rabita Council here on Saturday. According to details, intense gunfight left one person dead and some eight others wounded here in the Lyari Town. Following the clashes, Katchi Rabita Council (KRC) staged a protest demonstration on Maripur Road and in front of the CMs House. Gangsters of Lyari scuffled with the Katchi community when they tried to establish barriers at the entry and exit points of the area to avert untoward incidents. The armed clashes, which sparked over the installation of barriers on Friday, left two persons namely Imran Singhar son of M Hussain Singhar and Shakeel injured in the precincts of Baghdadi Police Station. After the said incident, the unabated firing incidents started on Saturday morning at all neighbourhoods of Lyari including Nayaabad, Shah Abdul Latif Bhattai Road, Khadda Market, Moosa Lane and other areas, which left seven more persons namely Jamshed, Zakir, Abdul Razzak, Ali Akbar, Sikander, Muzaffar and Babu were injured. Jamshed and Zakir belonged to Lyari gang while rest of them are related to KRC. Unidentified miscreants, who resorted aerial firing, forced the shopkeepers to shut down their shops. The Katchi community, which started its protest after the death of Imran Singhar, who succumbed to his injures during treatment at the hospital, demanded of the authorities concerned to take stern action against the gangsters of Lyari Gang. The protesters first blocked Maripur Road for traffic for more than eight hours. Imran was buried at Mawach Goth graveyard. After his burial, hundreds of people again started protest on Maripur Road. Meanwhile the protestors reached Karachi Press Club and they also marched towards the Chief Ministers House. The protestors dispersed peacefully after the assurance given by DIG South Iqbal Mahmood to take responsible persons to task.
