LAHORE – A diamond valued at 8 hundred thousand rupees, exhibited by Indian traders at the EXPO Centre in Johar Town was stolen by unidentified thieves on Sunday evening.

“After receiving information about the Indian diamond that went missing from the Exhibition we reached the spot and examined the scene,” said a senior police officer, adding that footage taken from CCTV cameras could play an integral part in investigation process.

Earlier, a diamond belonging to ND diamonds, one of India’s leading jewellery manufacturers and wholesalers was stolen in the presence of a good number of visitors at the EXPO Centre, where dozens of Indian companies had exhibited jewellery articles including gold ornaments and diamond necklaces.

Talking about the incident, a senior officer said police have lodged an FIR against unidentified robbers and seasoned police officers have been assigned to investigate the case. No one has been arrested till now, and further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, The Punjab Highway Patrol in separate incidents has recovered stolen items worth over 125 thousand rupees and arrested 4 drunkards in various areas of the province on Sunday. In the first incident the Punjab Highway Patrol post Chimranwali, district Jhang was informed about three armed culprits who had stolen a welding plant and managed to escape in a vehicle with license plate LWO-9893, towards Faisalabad.

The said car was intercepted at a police picket, where the culprits opened fire but the police retaliated, so that the thieves fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind. On searching it, the PHP team recovered a welding plant, three batteries, and eight starter devices of tractor, three generators, 10 covers of generator and a bag of other items.

Meanwhile, PHP teams in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan arrested Muhammad Shabbir, Jamshed Iqbal, Mohammad Amin and Muhammad Munir respectively for drunk driving and recovered liqueur from them.
