LAHORE – Punjab Young Doctors Association has announced to stage a sit-in at Jail Road outside Punjab Institute of Cardiology for two hours (from 11 am to 1 pm) today (Monday) to protest against suspension of senior doctors.

Last day, the YDA Punjab had given 24 hour deadline to the Punjab government for restoration of doctors suspended over spurious drugs issue.

YDA Punjab spokesman Dr Nasir Abbas said the Punjab government had not contacted doctors for negotiations. He made it clear that the YDA Punjab would go ahead with the plan of staging a sit-in for two hours.

A spokesman of Provincial Health Department said the YDA sit in was a clear violation of Supreme Court orders. He said as per the SC orders, it was mandatory for all doctors and owners of pharmaceutical firms to extend cooperation in the investigation regarding PIC medicines. He said the strike was violation of fundamental rights of the patients and as such those observing the strike would not only commit the contempt of court but such steps would also be against the spirit of noble profession.

He appealed the doctors to abide by the orders of Supreme Court and refrain from staging sit-in or observing the strike.
