KHANEWAL - Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has said that free, fair and transparent elections are impossible in the presence of politically-appointed governors who have sympathies with political parties.

“Governor Houses have been converted into centres for pre-poll rigging. Baloch made it clear that the incumbent election commission was formed with mutual consensus of all political parties and his party had full confidence in it.

“It is illogical to postpone or delay the upcoming general elections the plea for reconstitution of ECP.”

JI General Secretary Liaquat Baloch made the remarks while talking to the newsman here at Ghazli Educational Institute after condoling the death of the mother of Jamaat Punjab Naib Ameer Ch Uzair Latif.

The JI stalwart made it clear that the JI would contest the elections on its own symbol; however, there could be seat adjustment with other likeminded parties including religious parties, PML-N, PTI, adding that however, his party had principally decided not to go into elections as ally with the PPP, ANP, MQM and the PML-Q.

He alleged that the PPP and its allies had proved to be national criminals, adding that the masses should elect honest, and God-fearing candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming general elections to build Pakistan as a truly Islamic welfare state.

Baloch pointed out that the slogan of roti, kapra aur makan had exposed as the PPP and its allies had plundered the national wealth with both hands. “The national entities like NICL, PIA, Railways, CBR and others have been mercilessly looted and pushed to the verge of destruction and have reduced the masses into beggars,” he lamented.

He stressed that it was time the nation must play due role and elect only those candidates who were patriots, honest and loyal with Pakistan in the upcoming elections.

Baloch declared that Jamaat would not attend the all parties conference convened by ANP, adding that the parties like ANP and PPP despite being in the power over the last five year never come forward to talk with Talban and come up with an effective strategy to eliminate terrorism from the country. He also criticised the planning for the division of Punjab which he said was just to divide votes on linguistic basis, adding that provinces should be created on administrative ground only.  The PPP government is making mockery of the public by politicising the new provinces issue at a time when the nation was going into balloting,” he argued, adding that the new provinces issue was the most important issue an should be left for the next government.
