SADIQABAD - Dilapidated building which has officially been declared dangerous, heaps of garbage at its main gate, shortage of furniture and unavailability of potable water are salient features of a school situated at Basti Moran area of Sadiqabad.

Because of the dangerous building of Government Primary School, the lives of students studying there are at state while the Education Department officials have turned a blind eye to the precarious situation as no step has ever been taken to repair and upgrade the building since its establishment about 53 years ago. Moreover, in one classroom, about 150 students are forced to get education by sitting on the ground as it faces shortage of furniture as well.

Local inhabitants said that the school building had competed its stipulated time period. The inhabitants including Hafiz Javed, Raashid, M Akram, Fiazul Hassan, M Siddiq, Nadim, Gulam Mustafa, M Jehangir, M Arshad, Usman, M Tanveer, Atta Muhammad, Nabi Bakhsh, Subhan and Fiaz expressed the fear that the building was now dangerous and it could cause a loss of precious lives of the students if is was not demolished for the construction a new building.

They added that the strong stink of heaps of garbage is a test for the students to continue their learning process. After rains, water is accumulated at the school as there was no system to drain out it from the building, they noted. Even in summer season, the children have to continue their learning under the open sky, they said.

The parents of the students appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other education authorities to ensure early solution to the problems and provision of basic facilities to the students at the school by immediately issuing funds for the construction of a new building for the school.
