Rana made FPSC member from secy finance


ISLAMABAD - The government on Tuesday cancelled the contract of Secretary Finance Abdul Wajid Rana and appointed him as member of Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).Sources said that the government has taken this decision in the light of objections raised by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly. The PAC has shown concerns over the reappointment of retired officers including Secretary Finance Abdul Wajid Rana on contract basis. According to the reports, the Account General of Pakistan Akhtar Buland Rana, in PAC meeting, had criticized the government for giving control of the country’s finances to official who had been appointed in violation of rules and the apex court’s orders. Later AGPR has stopped the salary of Finance Secretary Abdul Wajid Rana and two other officials because they were working in the highest position on contract basis allegedly in violation of the Supreme Court order in Haj Scandal case.Abdul Wajid Rana was re-employed on contract basis in November 2012 and designated as principal officer to look after the duty of the finance secretary after his retirement on reaching the age of superannuation. Sources said that govt has not appointed new finance secretary yet and decision in this regard might be taken in next few days.  President Zardari, on the advice of PM, Tuesday has appointed Abdul Wajid Rana as member of FPSC.
