ISLAMABAD - Rawalpindi team were in total command against Karachi Whites on the opening day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Super Eight Stage second round Group A match here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Rawalpindi had finished the day at 253-8 in 59 overs thus taking a good lead of 184 runs with two wickets still remaining. Awais Zia made 67, Baber Naeem 66, Umar Waheed 28 and Sohail Tanveer 23 while Jamal Anwar was still at the crease on 23. Abdul Ameer clinched six wickets for 83. Earlier, Rawalpindi skipper Sohail Tanveer’s decision to bowl first immediately paid off as Karachi were bundled out for a meagre 69 runs in 29 overs. Shahzaib Hasan made 19 while Mohtasham Ali and Faraz Ahmed managed 11 each. Tanveer ripped through Karachi batting by claiming five wickets for 20 while Hammad Azam and Sadaf Hussain took two wickets each. In another Group A match between Islamabad and Sialkot, Sialkot skipper after winning the toss opted to bowl first. Islamabad made 259-5 in 83 overs. Raheel Majeed made a sparkling 115 hitting 14 boundaries while Ali Sarfraz remained unlucky not to complete a deserving ton as he lost his wicket at 97. Hafiz Majid took two wickets for four.
