Rawalpindi-Anti-Corruption Establishment, Rawalpindi booked 3 officers of TMA Rawal Town, 8 nspectors and 9 plaza owners on charges of illegal construction of commercial plazas along Murree Road, a spokesman said on Monday.

Cases were registered with police station of the ACE Rawalpindi after conducting detailed inquiry against the accused, he said. According to him, inquiry against officers of Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi was initiated by Directorate of Anti-Corruption Rawalpindi on account of illegal plazas at Murree Road.

Amjad Shahzad, Circle Officer (Headquarters) Rawalpindi, was appointed as inquiry officer to probe the matter.

The IO summoned the accused and recorded their statements besides holding inquiry against them. He added that during the inquiry, the IO found the accused guilty and recommended action against three regulation officers of Rawal Town, Rawalpindi, Malik Tauseef, Malik Mukhtar and Shahzad Naveed Gohar as well as Arshad Khan, building inspector, Ghulam Mustafa, Shamsher Shah, Mukhtar Ahmed, Tariq Yousuf, Sohail, Saleem Khan, enforcement inspectors and Gul Rahman.

Similarly, the owners who built illegal plazas included Aziz Ullah, Owner of China Centre, Dr Rafique, Adam Khan and Gul Rahman, owners Gulf Centre, Abdul Majeed Malik, Ashiana Centre, Malik Saad, Naeem Khan, Ameer Khan and Faheem Khan, owners of Dubai Plaza.

Director ACE Rawalpindi Arif Raheem said that the charges against the accused were levelled on the grounds that the various plazas were illegally constructed in Rawalpindi without approval of site plan by joining hands with public functionaries and selling properties in unapproved buildings.  FIR No 05/2018 was registered against the accused at the police station of the ACE Rawalpindi and investigation is entrusted to a JIT, he said.
