Islamabad: The civic agencies have decided to plant as many as 300,000 saplings of multiple species of plants during the Spring Tree Plantation Drive, a statement said on Monday.

The statement said that Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) had made comprehensive arrangements for the Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2018.

This year, 300,000 saplings of different species will be planted to enhance beauty of the city so that green character of Islamabad could be further boosted, the statement added.

Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2018 would be launched during a ceremony to be held at Fatima Jinnah Park on February 15. Representatives of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries, civil society, government and semi-government departments, students of different colleges and schools, NGOs and people of different walks of life would participate in the event, the statement said.

Islamabad Expressway, green areas, play grounds, parks, Margalla Hills National Park, Simly Dam catchment area and green belts of Kashmir Highway would be targeted as major planting sites during the drive. Comprehensive awareness and publicity campaign will also be launched to ensure practical participation of the masses in the drive, the statement added.

The concerned formations have been directed to take concrete and consolidated steps to ensure survival of species which are to be planted during the drive.–Staff Reporter   

Indigenous plants would be preferred so that maximum growth of the planted saplings could be ensured, the statement concluded.
