ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) will organise the first Tenpin Bowling Championship on February 14 here at the Leisure Citi Bowling Alley in collaboration with Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF).

Talking to The Nation, ICCI senior vice president M Naveed Malik and sports committee chairman Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry announced this and said: “We have promised to extend all-out cooperation to different soirts federations and our focus will be helping disabled sports. We will invite Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) president former national team captain and PDCA president on February 15 here at the chamber and discuss ways and means to help this noble cause. We will help the PDCA in providing jobs to the deserving players and extend best possible help to them.”

Naveed said the first of its kind, the tenpin bowling championship will help out members not only involve in healthy sporting activity, but also learn the rules of the game. “We are grateful to the PTBF secretary Ijaz Ur Rehman for joining hands with chamber and provide us with wonderful alley. We have decided to conduct men’s singles and team, females singles and doubles, mixed team and singles for kids of the members, as without involving families and kids, the event serves no purpose.”

He said ICCI president Amir Waheed Sheikh will grace the closing ceremony as chief guest and distribute prizes among the contestants. The event will start at 1pm while the formal opening ceremony will be held at 4pm, in which ICCI founder group chairman Zubair Ahmed Malik will be the guest of honour while Senator Zafar Ali Shah and MNA Asad Umar will also be present.

“We are expecting around 300 members to take part in the mega event. We also have conducted family cricket gala with Top City management and it was also a huge hit. We have appointed Nasir Ch with the purpose of ensuring all-out help to deserving athletes. Nasir himself is a sportsman and has vast experience of working with different associations, especially PCAPH and PDSA,” he added.

Nasir Ch said after tenpin bowling , they have planned for future activities. “We will invite Rashid Latif, then Misbah-ul-Haq and then other athletes to honour them. We also request PCB chairman Najam Sethi to announce special incentives for the ICCI for the PSL. We want to visit UAE and buck up national cause. The PSL is a great initiative and being Pakistanis and business community of the capital, we will do whatever we can to help the PCB and ensure PSL flourish with each passing day.”

“PTBF secretary Ijaz has also assured his presence during the event, as majority of our members and families don’t know the ABC of bowling, so Ijaz will be a great help for them. The certificates will also be distributed among the participants as a token of appreciation,” Nasir concluded.
