ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tennis Federation patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas Monday announced that the ITF Pakistan Juniors is returning to Pakistan after nine years.

Talking to The Nation, Dilawar, who is also Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) honorary life-time senior vice president, said that the Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan Junior will be held under the auspices of Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA) here from February 19 to 24. “After the successful conduct of successive Davis Cup ties and ITF Futures in 2017 and 2018, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has agreed to allocate one ITF U-18 Tournament to the PTF.”

He said according to schedule, the qualifying round of the event would be held on February 16 while the main draw will be held at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex. “It is international ranking point tournament, which is attracting international players to participate in the events to improve their individual rankings,” he added.

Dilawar said a great number of entries have been received from international players of UK, USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Greece, Canada and Turkey. “This promises an awesome level of tennis for local players and spectators, it is to be seen how our best will feature against the world’s top players at home. The main draw in event is for 32 players in singles and 16 pairs in doubles, while the qualifying round for singles is also for 32 players. ITF White Badge official M Arif Qureshi has been nominated as referee of the event,” he added.
