Supreme Court of Pakistan granted protective bail of suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar after he pleaded guilty in a letter written to Chief Justice Saqib Nisar today.
As the hearing on suo moto notice on Naqeebullah muder case resumed, Sindh IG police AD Khawaja appeared before the apex court. He seek more time for arrest of Anwar.
Earlier, SC gave ten days to arrest Anwar but Sindh police remained unsuccessful although other major accused in the case have been arrested.
AD Khawaja told the apex court that a special committee has been established and officials from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) are also assisting the police.
He further told the court that police is handling this case on priority bases. Upon this Chief Justice produced the letter with Rao Anwar's letter in which ex-SSP claimed that he is innocent.
CJP remarked that Rao Anwar is claiming that he was not even at the site of 'fake encounter.'
Justice Nisar asked Khawaja how the court should proceed in the light of this letter. IGP Sindh acknowledged that Rao Anwar should be given chance to defend himself.
The court issued protective bail to Rao Anwar and ordered him to appear before court on Friday.
Naqeebullah Mehsud was shot dead in extrajudicial killing by Rao Anwar's encounter specialist team. After an uproar on social media a committee was established to investigate the killings.
The committee rejected Rao Anwar's claim that Mehsud was a terrorist and declared Waziristan's native an innocent.
