ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Law and Justice Dr Babar Awan has said that Pope Benedict XVI instead of interfering into Pakistani legal system should take steps for the release of 4000 Palestinian prisoners and Dr Afia Siddiqui. The Pope on Monday called on Pakistan to scrap the country's blasphemy law. Talking to media persons at the Supreme Court building on Wednesday, he said the Federal Government would take necessary steps for the arrest of Justice Javed Iqbal's parents' murderers. "The Chief Justice of Pakistan is likely to take suo moto notice on this incident," he further added. The parents of Justice Javed Iqbal, a senior most judge of the Supreme Court, were found dead under mysterious circumstances in their house near Cavalry Ground on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the President Supreme Court Bar Association while expressing concerns over the killing of Justice Javed Iqbal's parents said it was the responsibility of the Government to provide security to all the citizens instead of the ministers and bureaucrats only. Asma Jahangir, President SCBA, was also talking to media persons separately at the premises of Supreme Court. She said whoever is getting threat whether that person is a judge of Supreme Court or high courts or a lawyer or media person should be provided security. She said on one hand the ministers are being provided heavy contingent of police, on the other hand people are killed mercilessly and no one is taking notice of it. She said security has become a status symbol. To a question that Justice Javed's parents were killed because the honourable judge had started hearing missing persons cases, she said it was a mere speculation, therefore, she could not comment till the finding of details. On the announcement of President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir, a mourning day was observed on Wednesday against the killing of Justice Javed Iqbal's parents. Asma was among the first prominent personalities who reached the residence of Justice Javed Iqbal in Lahore after hearing the news of his parents murder.
