Fish rate hiked by Rs 15 per kg

LAHORE (PPI) - The fish prices have been hiked by Rs 15 per kg in fish market due to cold waves in Punjab province, while the fish sale has also increased in recent days. According to a market sources, in the current month fish rates have been raised and a large number of customers were moving to fish market after dense fog and winter waves. Due to high demand, the fish sale has also increased up to 500 kg daily. Market sources said that during the current month, the fish sale has reached up to 3,000 mound per day. About 1,500 mound sea fish arriving from Karachi, while the rest demand was supplying by fish farms in Punjab. The current rates of 1.5 kg piece of fish in whole sale market were as under: Rahu Rs 210 per kg, Malli Rs 170 per kg, Thala Rs 185 per kg, Silver Rs 150 per kg, Bam Rs 290 per kg, grass Rs 280 per kg and Khaga Rs 300 per kg. Anjuman-e-Tajran Machli Mandi Mori Gate President Yasin Butt said that due to winter waves and foggy season every person preferred to eat fish. The Rahu demand is very high in market because it is local and fresh species of Punjab. Anjuman-e-Tajran Machli Mandi General Secretary Sardar Azhar Hussain said that although fish rates have been increased but it was comparatively low against mutton. He said fish rates would be stable in this week and may be dropped after mid of January. Currently, there is no shortage of supply of fish in the whole sale market, he added.
