LAHORE Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr Saeed Elahi has said that Mobile Health Units (MHUs) were providing quality healthcare facilities to the people in remote areas. Addressing a press conference here at Directorate General of Public Relation office on Wednesday, he said that MHU was a full fledged hospital which could be compared to any hospital of DHQ or Tertiary level in terms of the health facilities. It is equipped with all necessary machinery including testing facilities which were provided free of cost and not even a single penny is allowed to be charged from anyone. He said some 125 kinds of medicines which were normally required have been made available in each unit and were provided to the patients free of cost. Each MHU had a doctor, a female gynecologist, nurses, Lady Health Visitor (LHV), ECG, X-Ray and Lab technicians. This strength of the health providers has now been doubled, he said adding that in the first phase, six MHUs have been provided for Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Mianwali, DG Khan, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur. MHU at Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Mianwali have already started working while the other three would be functional within a week. He said that the CM has approved 36 more MHUs to provide this facility to all other districts.
