MULTAN - The college teachers continued their strike for the fourth consecutive day to press the government to accept their demands here on Thursday.

The strike call was given by the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and teachers boycotted classes at Emerson, Wilayat Hussain, Alamdar and other colleges. Talking to the journalists, the college teachers said that the Punjab govt had assured the college teachers of implementation of recommendations made by the joint committee of PPLA representatives and education officials within 45 days. “But now the govt is reluctant to implement these recommendations. The government has backed out. It’s a pity,” they added. They warned that the college teachers would not talk to the govt anymore and continue their protest till acceptance of all demands.

It may not be out of place to mention here that the college teachers are demanding one-step up-gradation, confirmation of services of contract teachers and introduction of five-step formula for promotion.
