ORAKZAI AGENCY - At least four mine workers died and six others sustained injuries as a result of a powerful blast inside a coalmine in Orakzai Agency on Thursday.

According to officials, almost about 12 mine workers were inside the well number 5, owned by Abdul Hassan, when suddenly a blast rocked inside the mine. Resultantly, four workers died on the spot while six others got injured.

Soon after the blast, the mine rescue team rushed to the site and recovered the dead bodies and injured persons after hectic efforts, who were later dispatched to Peshawar and Kohat hospitals for treatment.

Those who died in the blast were identified as Noor Jamal, Zafar Ali, Akhtar Hussain and Bakht Jamal, all belonged to district Shangla. The injured included Umer Zaman, Hussain Nabi, Shahid Ali and Muslim Khan while identity of the remaining injured could not be ascertained till the filling of the report.

President of Coamines Association, Fazal Rabi, has said that due to lack of resources for safety and protection of the mine workers, such incidents are on the rise.
