SADIQABAD - The Hur Community and political activists of Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday mourned the death of their leader and PML-Functional Chief Pir Mardan Shah-II, commonly known as Pir Pagara, as they kept weeping, crying and sobbing with tears rolling down their eyes continuously.

Addressing a gathering at the Pagara Secretariat, PML-F provincial vice president Raees Khaliq Dad Chachar said that their leader was no more and paid a rich tribute to him.

He said that the deceased’s services for the country were unforgettable. On the occasion, the mourners threw rose petals over the spiritual leader’s picture placed at the secretariat.

Later in Pir Jo Goth, Pir Pagara was laid to rest beside the grave of his grand father Shah Mardan Shah I. Hundreds of his followers offered the funeral prayer led by Hazrat Siraj Ahmed Gilani, commonly known as Pir of Jhang. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former foreign minister and PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi also participated in the funeral prayer.

On Tuesday, the spiritual leader of the Hur Jamaat passed away in London. The ailing PML-F chief was admitted to Aga Khan University hospital on Nov 24 last year where he underwent a surgery to remove a cyst. On January 5, he was taken to London by a special air ambulance for treatment of his infected lungs.

He died at the Wellington Hospital at about 11:30pm (PST). He leaves behind a wife, four sons, three daughters and many grandchildren.

Various political and religious leaders including President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani have paid homage to the diseased leader and sent messages to convey condolences to the bereaved family.
