A Spokesman of the Prime Minister House Friday strongly denied a news report which had claimed that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had telephoned the British High Commissioner seeking his help to avert a coup. A statement from the Prime Minister’s House mentioned a news report by a foreign news agency that Prime Minister spoke to British High Commissioner Adam Thomson last week seeking the British help to preempt the coup. The Spokesman said “the Prime Minister has not spoken to the British High Commissioner in this regard and the story is totally unfounded.” The Spokesman said the democratic government led by Prime Minister Gilani draws its strength from the people of Pakistan and not from any foreign power.
