RAWALPINDI - In a successful action, police apprehended a con artist who had got published a fake news item in a national daily narrating about his miseries he faced after abduction of his three children including two boys and a girl by a terrorist group.

DSP Cantt Circle, Sardar Shahbaz Khan disclosed this in a press conference here on Thursday. The DSP revealed that police responding to a story published in an English newspaper, launched investigations into the matter and registered a case against Shamsul Anwar, the father of a so-called unfortunate girl named Madina Anwar, who was reportedly “kidnapped for ransom” by a terrorist outfit.  He added that ex-army man Shamsul Anwar fabricated the story to win the public sympathies and collect money.

He told that Anwar’s daughter had also been found from a house and police had arrested him after registering a case of fraud whose First Information Report (FIR) number is 22/12 under Section 420, 499, 500 and 504 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Shehbaz said the man had claimed that his daughter had been kidnapped but she was married and was living happily with her husband only a few yards from her parents’ house.

He told that the accused got published story of abduction of his children to get sympathies of people to collect money from them. “I request to the people to not deposit money in bank account of Shamsul Anwar since he is a fraudulent man and police has sealed his bank account” Shehbaz said.
