ISLAMABAD - Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid announced on Sunday deserted playgrounds would be made functional shortly.

Speaking an event on the occasion of second anniversary of PTV Sports, the minister said the government would create conducive atmosphere for players so that they could play without any fear or threat from terrorists.

He felicitated PTV management on success of its sports channel, and directed it to ensure coverage to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan as sportsman as well as a politician.

“The services of any politician including Imran Khan, who had won the county laurels in the playfield must be acknowledged,” he observed. The achievements of Imran Khan in cricket must also be highlighted on the official channel.

Castigating PTV management, he said Khan’s achievements in sports must be highlighted. Imran must be given coverage not only in sports channel but also in PTV news. He said PTV must also highlight achievements of women players as well.

Earlier, certain legendary sportsmen and the minister performed the cake-cutting ceremony.

Jehangir Khan, Islahuddin, Samiullah, Mohsin Khan, Shahid Afridi, BasitAli, Muhammad Waseem, Asad Ali, Tauqir Zia, snooker player Muhammad Yousuf, Jawwad Ahmed, tennis coach Rashid Malik, swimmer Aurooj Mumtaz and others were present at the ceremony.
