KARACHI - The Sindh government has decided to award one-step promotions to the officers and personnel of Crime Investigation Department (CID) engaged in counterterrorism while a notification in this regard will be issued on Monday (today). The Sindh government has also decided to change the name of Garden Police Headquarters in the name of the slain SP CID, Anti-Terrorism Unit, Chaudhry Aslam Khan.

CID AIG Iqbal Mehmood, while talking to The Nation, revealed the Sindh Government had decided that the officers and personnel of CID’s all units engaged in counterterrorism across the city would be promoted to next grades after giving them one-step promotions.

Sindh Police Director Press Moiz Pirzada, when contacted, revealed 500 officers and personnel of different grades had been promoted to next grades. He said it had been decided by the Sindh government to appreciate performance of CID and the danger they had been facing during their jobs. The units getting promotions are Anti-Extremism Cell, Anti-Terrorism Cell and Financial Crime Unit of CID.

It is worth mentioning here that following the decision of the Supreme Court, majority of CID officers having got out-of-turn promotions were demoted to their original grades. And it would be difficult for the department to maintain the hierarchy of CID cells because majority of the department chiefs enjoying the slot of SP were demoted to the slots of inspectors and sub inspectors. The demoted officers filed a review petition in the apex court, which is still pending. Thus the decision to promote the officers to the slot of DSPs and inspectors would prove encouraging for those busy fighting terrorism.

ABDUL FATAH MALIK NEW SINDH AGL Following the resignation of Advocate Khalid Javed from the post of advocate general of the province, the PPP government has decided to appoint former Assistant Advocate General Abdul Fatah Malik as AG.

Sindh Advocate General Khalid Javed who is son-in-law of PPP leader ND Khan resigned from the post two days ago, assigning the reason of his personal engagements.

Khalid Javed’s wife, Erum Khalid Javed, is PPP’s Sindh Assembly member while his entire family belongs to the ruling PPP.

Sources said AG Khalid Javed some time ago also tendered resignation, but the CM didn’t accept it. However, the chief executive of the province accepted his resignation this time, deciding to give the task to former Assistant Advocate General Fatah Malik who has been defending the Sindh government in many cases.

Abdul Fatah Malik met with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday at the CM’s House after which the CM decided to appoint him the new advocate general to defend the Sindh government in courts. However, the final notification would be taken after the approval of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The post of the AG plays an important role as he presents the viewpoint of the provincial government in the courts and defends it in cases of law and order, local government, revenue and others.
