ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said the Pakistan-China Corridor is the sole way to achieve economic stability and urged the nation not to pay heed to the propaganda against its construction.
The President expressed these views at a meeting with the delegation of businessmen from Lahore here in the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President said the Pak-China Economic Corridor would open up massive opportunities of employment in the country.
He said the whole nation should support this project and asked the businessmen and traders to play role in strengthening of national economy.
He said the country could make progress if solid steps were taken for its development and improvement be made in tax system.
The President stressed that there was a need to simplify the tax system for non-corporate sector.
He urged the nation to support the government in elimination of corruption and reject corrupt elements in the society.
He expressed satisfaction that no scandal of corruption surfaced at the government’s level during last three years.
The President said that the business community was the backbone of the country and the government was taking steps to overcome the energy crisis and improve the law and order situation.
Senate body summons
PML-N MP:
Senate Standing Committee on Communication on Monday in a rare move summoned MNA of the ruling PML-N to explain his position as a contractor for the delay in construction of a flyover in historic Takht Bhai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Senate committee that met under the chair of Senator Dawood Khan Achakzai took this decision while taking serious notice that its recommendations were never implemented regarding the completion of development projects in the country during the last five years. The committee summoned MNA Malik Riaz in its next meeting to explain why he as a contactor of Takh Bhai flyover was going on with his work at a slow pace.
The committee also directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to repatriate all officers of grade 17 and above working on deputation to their parent departments. The chair took serious notice of the delay in the promotions of officers of NHA during the last three years. The committee recommended that immediate steps should be taken to settle the longstanding issue of promotions.
The committee directed the NHA to abide by the rules strictly in connection with giving approach road to the Top City, a housing society, which is adjacent to Islamabad Airport.
The two members of the committee pointed out that a teacher besides employees of SSGPL and PEMRA had also been appointed on technical positions in NHA. Chairman NHA Shahid Ashraf Tarar told the committee that there were total of 3,700 employees working in NHA and out of which 51 were working on deputation here. “I do not want to reveal the truth regarding the appointment of the teacher in NHA,” the Chairman NHA added.
