MIRPUR (AJK)

The Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League (JKLL) opposed the Pakistan government’s proposal to give provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan.
JKLL President Abdul Majeed Mallick said that the formation of a parliamentary committee on the status of GB to give a provincial status to GB was a U-turn of Pakistan on its stance on Jammu & Kashmir first time since 1947.
Talking to a group of senior journalists here on Monday, Mallick, who also retired chief justice of AJK High Court, invited the attention of political leadership on both sides of the Line of Control to stand united and defend the geographical entity of the Jammu & Kashmir State.
Justice (r) Mallick reminded that the members of the Parliamentary Committee and the Prime Minister of Pakistan that the United Nations Security Council had passed mandatory resolutions on March 31, 1951 and January 14, 1957 directing both India and Pakistan to desist from integrating any part of the State of Jammu & Kashmir as a whole with India or Pakistan on the advice and resolution of any political party or assembly of any part of the State. He recalled that it was unanimously resolved by the UN Security Council that such a step would be in derogation to the SC resolutions wherein disposal of the State has been confined to plebiscite in the State.
He said that the government of Pakistan taken at this stage in deviation to the historical national stance of Pakistan and SC resolution would amount to betrayal and a fatal stab to the Kashmir Freedom Movement and sacrifices rendered by the people of the state in liberation movement. Nevertheless, he emphasised that people of Jammu & Kashmir would never accept and allow the division of the state at present critical juncture of the Kashmir freedom movement even at the cost of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said, “Freedom of the people of Jammu & Kashmir was more important than CPEC or any other project.” He invited the attention of political leadership on both sides of the Line of Control to stand united and defend the geographical entity of the Jammu & Kashmir State.
