Islamabad - A close liaison between the police and public would be ensured to ensure law and order in the city.
This was stated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Khalid Khan Khattak while assuming the charge of IGP Islamabad. He said the improvement in the law and order, protection to the lives and property of the public, timely justice and fight against crime are the top priorities. The IGP said that the police would tighten noose around hardened criminals. He also said that citizens would be given direct access to the officers so that their grievances could be redressed.
The field officers would be activated to nab criminals involved in dacoitees, robberies, street crime and other crimes of heinous nature, he added. He stressed for speedy disposal of cases, investigation purely on merit and earliest arrest of criminals involved in various crime cases. He also emphasised the need for adopting zero tolerance against crimes.
He said an effective strategy is very much necessary to reduce crime and come up to expectations of the people by addressing their grievances on immediate basis.
He also ordered police to adopt professional as well as responsible attitude to mitigate the sufferings of the people. He directed to focus on resolving the public complaints, and take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens. He directed all officers to provide maximum relief to citizens and not to make any delay in registration of FIRs. He said police officials responsible in delaying registration of cases and doing sluggish investigation would not be spared.
The IGP said that he would not tolerate corruption and purge police force of officials involved in corrupt practices.
He also directed all police officials performing duties at police stations to improve their performance and address the grievances of the masses on immediate basis following merit to win the confidence and support of the people. He stressed for speedy disposal of cases, investigation purely on merit and earliest arrest of criminals involved in various crime cases.
He also emphasised the need to adopt zero tolerance against petty crimes and said that petty criminals become hardened criminals if they remain unchecked. He also directed to ensure crackdown against absconders.
Khalid Khan Khattak further said that transparency and merit would be ensured in the department. The professional and honest officers would be rewarded for their achievements while officers found involved in malpractice would be taken to task.
