Non-bailable arrest warrant for NTS director issued

ISLAMABAD: Special Judge Customs Court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the National Testing Service (NTS) Director Dr Haroon Rashid in the money laundering and tax evasion case on Saturday.

Special Judge Customs Court Muhammad Shiraz Kiyani conducted the hearing of the money laundering and tax evasion case against NTS in Rawalpindi as other officials of NTS Dr Junaid, Dr Izhar Hussain, Dr Sohail appeared before the court.

During the hearing, Directorate Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, a subdivision of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), submitted an application in the court that during an investigation it was found that the suspects had concealed 15 bank accounts and the total amount of money laundered increased from Rs2 billion to Rs3.604 billion.

It was requested that the court might allow these accounts and the NTS building to be sealed. The court accepted the applications and issued notices.

Five of the six suspects in the case, Dr Junaid Zaidi, Izhar Hussain, Sohail Ghani, Dr Shahid Ahmed and Dr Sherzada Khan submitted an amount of Rs100,000 as bail in the court.

For not appearing before the court, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against the NTS Director Dr Haroon Rasheed.

The court ordered that the accused should be arrested and presented before the court on January 30.
