KARACHI - Various political and religious parties on Friday held protest demonstrations at different key points of port city to condemn the gruesome murder of seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur and demanded the Punjab government to take prompt steps for early arrest of Zanaib‘s killer.

To condemn the Kasur incident, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) women wing held a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC). Numbers of the women along with the children participated in the protest. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with different slogans and demanded of the Punjab government to take immediate steps to arrest the murders involved in brutal rape and murder of innocent child Zainab in Kasur city in Punjab province.

Addressing the protestors, Syeda Zehra Naqvi, office bearer of MWM, condemned the incident and demanded that the culprits be hanged publicly. She said that negligence of police and administration and their failure to pre-empt such heinous crimes in Kasur has given an open field to the criminals and it is unfortunate that Zainab’s rape and murder was 13th incident because of inaction of the relevant authorities.

Allama Sadiq Jafari, secretary general MWM Karachi chapter, said that so far the culprits were not arrested that proved the inability and incompetence of Punjab government and police. He said that concrete steps should be taken along with legislations to ensure capital punishment for the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.

He said that the Zainab’s murder was a blot in the face of state authorities also. Empty statements and lip service would not satisfy the people who are demanding justice and the rulers have to shoulder their responsibility by actions and not by words, he added.

Meanwhile, protesters during a demonstration at Teen Talwar Karachi to condemn Zaniab‘s murder demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to tender resignation. The protest was held under the banner of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Defence and Clifton Chapter. PSP leaders including Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Waseem Aftab, Ashfaq Mangi and people from various walks of life participate in the demo.

The participants of protest were holding placards and banners inscribed with various slogans. They demanded the government to withdraw police personnel from protocol and placed them for the security of the people.

We have been forced to come on roads against the government which has failed to the take immediate steps for arrest of the accused person involved in Zaniab‘s murder said PSP leader Sagheer Ahmed while addressing media men at the demo site. He said that such incident has created fear in the society and after the horrific Kasur incident parents were unwilling to send their children outside houses.

Further criticising Punjab government, Sagheer said that PML-Nawaz government failed to take appropriate steps to curb such incidents while the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif woke up from sleep after protest demonstration were held across the country. The entire country mourning over the incident but rulers were unable to nab the culprits, he added.

Another demonstration was held outside KPC, in which Workers of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chapter Karachi along with Civil Society members condemned the ugly incident and demanded the Punjab Provincial government to nab the culprits. PPP MPA Saeed Ghani, Javed Nagori, Nadia Gabol and Waqar Mehdi led the demonstration while number of people including women, children and youth attended the demo

Speaking on the occasion Saeed Ghani condemned the incident and demanded proper probe to award exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in heinous crime. Kasur incident had shocked the entire nation while Punjab police instead of arresting the real culprits torturing and killing people those held protest against the incident, he added. Saeed demanded the Punjab government to conduct inquiry into all such incidents and take strict action those involved in the bloodshed.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Rashid Naseem expressing grief over the Kasur incident said that man made laws has failed to give protection to the people and it is need of the hour to implement Islamic Laws to save our children from wicked minded immoral. He was addressing the workers session at Mansoora Karachi. Rashid further suggested that there is no need to initiate sex education, whereas people involved in such heinous crime should be “stoned to death” as per Islamic laws. 

Separately, a group of woman activists also held a protest demo and strongly condemned the murder of Zainab. Candles were lit in the memory of innocent Zainab.
