KARACHI - A record number of 286 young artists across the country will participate in the 15th Sadequain awards organised by CDGK, schedule to be held by the end of this month at Gallery Sadequain in Frere Hall Library, The Nation has learnt on Saturday. The event is being organised by the Cultural wing of Community Development Department (CDD) of CDGK. Informed sources mentioned that the prize money for the winners have also been increased from this year.     The EDO, CDD, Rehana Saif when contacted said that all arrangements for organising the 15th Sadequain awards were in full swing and for the approval of final dates the summary of the event had been sent to the CDGK high-ups.  It may be noted that Sadequain awards is an annual event organised under the aegis of CDGK's CDD cultural wing to promote art and encourage young artists community. Every year the artist community participates in the awards competition across the country. Young and emerging painters from all the provinces send their two paintings or calligraphy to participate in the competition. A five-member judgement committee comprising senior and renowned artists and critics select the winner of the competition. The committee comprises on renowned artists Mashkoor Raza, Jimmy Engineer, Ustad Abdul Rauf, Marjorie Hussain and Shakeel Ismail. Informed sources told the Nation that the committee has given its judgement about the participants which is confidential and would be made public on the day of Sadequain awards. DO Cultural Wing of CDD, Naheed Abida said that 286 artists send their around 600 paintings and calligraphy for the competition. "Due to the departmental efforts, CDGK high-ups increased prize money for the winners. Sadequain awards ceremony would be held for one day later this month while exhibition of the paintings would be continued for few days," she added.
