HANGU - At least eighteen persons including fifteen personnel of the security forces, were killed and more than one dozen were injured in Hangu on Saturday. Some militants attacked the convoy of the security forces at Zargari in Hangu with heavy weapons, killing around 15 and injuring more than a dozen personnel of the Frontier Constabulary and destroying completely three vehicles.   Zargari area is considered to be a stronghold of the militants, which connects Hangu with Aurakzai Agency. In retaliation security forces also fired and killed three militants.  Soon after the attack, the security forces started shelling suspected hideouts of the militants at different places throughout Hangu District. Emergency was declared in Hangu District Headquarters Hospital. The local people believe that casualties are much higher. Earlier, the administration while rejecting Taliban's demand for the release of seven accomplices of militants, had asked the militants for unconditional release of all officials they had made hostages from Dawaba. "Enough is enough," were the remarks of a high-level official during a meeting at district headquarters Hangu. A meeting was convened to discuss the existing situation and to devise ways and means to bring the situation under control. The authorities warned militants of stern action if any of the hostages was either killed or injured. It is pertinent to mention that the militants had threatened earlier to kill the hostages if their accomplices, arrested from Dawaba, were not released. After this extremely dangerous situation people have started leaving the area for safer places and it is being announced in loudspeakers of mosques that people must leave the area and migrate to safer places.
