On a news blog, I read about this scheme in Scotland for teenagers called 'The Free Newspaper Scheme. They think all teenagers, before they turned 18, deserved to have a newspaper free for a period of one year to inculcate newspaper habit in them so that they become long-term readers of newspapers. They actually copied the idea from France where this scheme was introduced and the young people between 18 to 24 were offered free newspapers. I am greatly impressed by the thought and often dream of launching a similar scheme in Pakistan. It would be greatly beneficial for the young generation here which is mostly addicted to mobile phones, computers and other such gadgetry. May be a free copy for a limited time would engage their interest? -MUBASHIR SHAIKH, Hyderabad, July 11.
