Minister injured in India bombing

LUCKNOW (AFP) - A bomb blast outside the home of a state minister in the northern Indian city of Allahabad on Monday killed a man and injured five others, including the politician, officials said. The blast occurred outside the home of Nand Gopal Nandi, the Uttar Pradesh governments minister for stamps and registrations, at about 11:45 am (0615 GMT). The minister, a policeman and a journalist working for The Indian Express newspaper were injured in the explosion and were being treated in hospital. Another government employee and a sweeper were also hurt. A sixth victim, a man aged 40-45, died at the scene when the bomb, believed to have been planted in a moped or motorbike parked nearby, went off. (The injured) are all still undergoing treatment at a local hospital, district magistrate Sanjay Prasad said from Allahabad, 200 kilometres from the state capital, Lucknow. Nandi was out of danger while the condition of the policeman was described as serious.
