ISLAMABAD The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports has asked the Ministry of Sports to conduct the audit of the national sports federations before releasing new grant to them. After chairing the meeting here at Pakistan Sports Boards Committee Room on Monday, Iqbal Mohammad Ali told reporters that there should be accountability of the national sports federations, which have been getting financial support from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Sports bring good name for the country and we should support all national sports federations, which are producing acceptable results in the national and international event. The inactive federations should be held accountable, he added. He said that federations should set their targets to meet the international standard in the different sports disciplines. The Ministry of Sports should encourage those federations, which are doing well and bringing laurels for the country. We should also support active federations, he added. Earlier, in the meeting, president, Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Duoda Bhutto told the members of committee that his federation was going to bid for the Olympics qualifying round. If we get this honour to host the mega boxing event, we will stage it at Karachi. There will be need of Rs.70 millions for this event, he disclosed. Iqbal said on this occasion that the committee would fully back the PBF for the bidding. We will also request the government to help the boxing federation for hosting the Olympics boxing qualifying round at Karachi at the end of this year 2010, he added. Besides Pakistan Boxing Federation, the officials of Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) were present in the meeting. They gave presentation about their federations activities and also replied the various questions of the members of the committee. However, Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) did not attend the meeting.
