peshawar - Technical Education and Vocational Training Agency (TEVTA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced establishment of Chamber of Skilled Craftsman for the skilled persons of the province.
The purpose of the Chamber of skilled Craftsman was aimed to practically include the skilled persons in the national development and grant them recognition at both local and international level. The decision of establishment of the chamber was made in a consultative workshop organised under the auspices of TEVTA KP in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA).
Those who addressed on the occasion included Chairman TEVTA KP Nauman Wazir, President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) Zahidullah Shinwari and Provincial Chief Smeda Javed Iqbal while a large number of skilled persons from the province also attended the workshop. All participating skilled persons of the workshop were granted the status of founding members. After the finalisation of membership the chamber will be registered with the Director General Trade Organisations (DGTO).
In his welcome address, Chairman TEVTA KP Nauman Wazir said that skilled persons play a key role in development of the country. He said the provincial government is sincere in promotion of technical education. After assuming the charge as chairman TEVTA, Wazir said that he separated technical and commerce educations. He said earlier the agency was getting a meagre amount of Rs15 million, which was now increased to Rs120 million. Wazir said the TEVTA would provide secretariat facilities to the chamber, which is first of its nature in Asia. The chamber will have over 1,000 members and will elect their own office-bearers. According to membership criteria, he said it would have three categories of membership, including skilled corporate, unskilled corporate and associate members. The unskilled corporate member will be employer. However, he will not be elected as president.
He said that all 73 institutions of technical and vocational education in the province would be revamped where market-oriented technical skills would be imparted to the students. Similarly, he said that the youth of FATA would also be provided technical skills while those working in private workshops will also be issued certificates through technical board.
SMEDA Provincial Chief Javed Iqbal, while highlighting the skills profile of the province, said that both conventional and non-conventional trade of technical skills would be promoted in the province. He said the purposes of these efforts are the promotion of skills to improve the quality and production and generation of employment opportunities in the province. He urged all stakeholders to play their due role in this regard.
President KPCCI Zahidullah Shinwari, while highlighting the importance of chamber, said that it would yield positive results and help promote technical and vocational education.
