Rawalpindi - Belying the government’s tall claims regarding provision of better road connectivity in thickly populated Murree, Kotli Sattian and its suburbs, most of roads in the areas are in dilapidated condition, irking the residents a lot.

These areas are constituencies of two stalwarts of PML-N, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Punjab Minister for Manpower and Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar. Both political figures of Murree have badly failed to resolve genuine problems of their supporters.

Moreover, the residents have been facing shortage of clean drinking water and lack of health facilities.

The residents lashed out at the ministers for showing sheer negligence towards their basic problems and pledged not to vote for them in next general elections. They said that their elected members have forgotten them after reaching power corridors.

According to a survey conducted by The Nation, the roads passing through the villages Kalyari, Phagal, Dhani, Kamkot Haider, Biaga, Sangri, Kanwas, Karl and Darnoyan (commonly known as Lehtrar Road), Surasi, Dhanda, Guga, Chijana, Madla, Las Potar, Feeri, Chiota, Panati, Badhyar, Kakri and Dhaly Pir Batti (popular as Gehel-Kohati Kakrai Road) have been in very bad condition since long but the government is paying no heed towards the roads.

Potholes of several radii have developed in all the roads while a light rain can turn them into pools of water, making it difficult for the commuters to move on the roads.

As many as 50,000 villagers are living a miserable life due to ramshackle condition of the roads. They demanded Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif to pay a visit to their villages and see with his own eyes as how the villagers are living a life full with pain.

Talking to The Nation yesterday, Akhtar Kiyani, a resident of Sangroyan, said that the condition of Lehtrar Road has been very bad since long but elected public representatives are not taking the matter seriously despite public protests. He said that Lehtrar Road has been dotted with deep potholes for the last several years. “This road connects dozens of villages with main Kotli Sattian Road,” he said. He said that though he was a diehard worker of PML-N, he would not vote for sitting ministers in the next election because of their failure in repairing the road.

Due to pathetic condition of the road, said Amir Khan of Karl, the students and villagers face immense hardships to reach their destinations.

Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Provincial Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar did not receive their cell phones when this correspondent contacted them to know their point of view over the issue.
